Heat Recovery Project

Previous Photo | Next Photo
Project Objective:
On a food production line, recover the heat from the baking ovens' stacks to off set the fuel requirements for heating the cooking oil.  Flue gas flow through exchanger will increase by a factor of 8 and requires additional convective heating surface to recover the projected 2.6 MMBtu/hr.  Automated oven draft control w/heat recovery optimization will enhance present  performance and ensure project savings.

Project Statistics:
  • The project diverts the stack gas from four oven stacks to the fired oil heater's furnace section.  Additional convection section was installed on the oil heater to optimize the heat recovery from the transported stack gases.
  • Automated damper control along with VFD's performs the mass balance required.
  • Excess Oxygen is measured in the ovens and software optimizes oven performance by controlling draft
  • Project met, and in some cases, surpassed all predicted performance levels
  • Based on DOE's Average US household energy usuage of 36.3 MMBtu/yr (10,660 kw-hr/yr), this project presently, offsets the equivalent energy needed to power 600 homes for one year
