Dupont LFGTE Project

CPL, in partnership with Toro Energy, DuPont, Waste Management of Mississippi, Inc., EPA, MDEQ, MPUS and MDOT engineered, constructed and commissioned a 3,200 SCFM LFGTE project to supply LFG from Waste Management's Pecan Grove landfill to the Dupont Delisle, MS TIO2 facility.  CPL was responsible for the flare system modifications, LFG Processing System and Dupont's 230 MMBtu/hr super-heated package boiler.  (See WM Pecan Grove LFTE project for details of the landfill's project.)

Project Objective:
Design, install and commission seamless transfer boiler fuel conversion system for the plant's 230 MMBtu/hr super-heated package boiler.  Design will allow for either stand-alone firing or co-firing of the two options for fuel (natural gas or LFG). Seamless operations and switching of natural gas and LFG are paramount to control the plant operations.

Project Statistics:
  • The new LFG burner section designed to fire 100% of the design LFG flow = 100 MMBtu/hr of LFG
  • Mississippi’s first operational project that came on line under the state’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP)
  • Based on DOE's Average US household energy usuage of 36.3 MMBtu/yr (10,660 kw-hr/yr), this project presently, offsets the equivalent energy needed to power 12,500 homes for one year
  • Remote communications with landfill operations
